Role of ICT in effective Public Service Delivery emphasised
Public Servants must be proficient in the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) productivity tools if they must contribute meaningfully to the realisation of the goals of government, the Director-General, Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC) Magodo, Mrs. Regina Olubunmi Fabamwo, has said.
In her message at the opening of a 4-day training programme titled ICT for Effective Service Delivery, Fabamwo, who was represented at the event by the Centre’s Director for Management Development and Consultancy Services, Mrs. Bamidele Akinyemi, stated that the effectiveness of service delivery in Government business was dependent on the deployment of Information and Communication Technology tools by officers of the Public Service.
Whilst noting that ICT had contributed immensely to the delivery of business solutions globally and helped governments provide significant, value-added services to citizens, she added that it was crucial that Public Servants continue to hone their skills in the use if ICT productivity tools to aid the achievement of Government goals.
Fabamwo further stated that the 4-day training programme was put in place to ensure that Administrative Officers in the State Public Service are kept abreast of productivity tools applicable to their cadres, adding that participants should be able to use critical tools in the Microsoft Office suite to achieve the demands of their schedules.
She challenged participants, drawn from Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the State Public Service, to make the best use of the training opportunity, adding that the desire of the State Government to make Lagos Africa’s model mega city will be achieved if Public Servants are committed to contributing to the realisation of this goal.
